The Gary W. Rollins College of Business at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) invites applications for the position of Department Head and Gary W. Rollins Chair of Accounting.  The Department Head oversees academic leadership of the Department of Accounting, and maintains and enhances the connection between the Department of Accounting and the accounting business community.  The Department Head is also responsible for working with accounting faculty and the accounting community to establish the vision and direction for the accounting program.  The Department Head serves on the College’s Executive Committee and reports directly to the Dean of the Gary W. Rollins College of Business.  The Gary W. Rollins College of Business at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the Accounting program are AACSB accredited.  The Department of Accounting offers both a BSBA in Accounting and Masters of Accountancy degree programs.

 About the Gary W. Rollins College of Business

 The College of Business at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga recently received the largest philanthropic gift in the history of UTC from Gary W. Rollins and Kathleen Rollins of Atlanta.  The $40 million gift established the Gary W. Rollins College of Business as the first named college at UTC.  Mr. Rollins was a graduate of the business school and is Chairman and CEO of Rollins, Inc., a NYSE corporation with holdings that include Orkin, the world’s largest pest control company.

 The mission of the Rollins College of Business is to provide quality educational programs that produce academically-prepared and business-world ready graduates for a competitive global environment.  The college has long-standing AACSB accreditation, and the Department of Accounting is separately accredited by AACSB.  The college has approximately 2,100 undergraduate students in accounting, business analytics, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource management, marketing, and management, and 300 graduate students in the MBA, Master of Science in Data Analytics, and Master of Accountancy programs.  The college also offers minors in business administration, economics, entrepreneurship, personal finance, and promotion.  The Rollins College of Business is currently organized into four Departments (Accounting, Finance and Economics, Management, and Marketing and Entrepreneurship) with 58 full time faculty.  The Decosimo Success Center in the college provides outstanding support to students in the areas of academic advisement, experiential learning, and career development.

 About the Position 

 The search committee seeks a visionary, creative, and effective leader who will continue to navigate the department and its stakeholders through the ever-changing landscape of higher education. The successful candidate will be dynamic, strategic, collaborative, and inspirational and will be responsible for continuing to find innovative ways to build and nurture market-responsive academic programs that yield highly-competitive and capable graduates.  The department head will lead and work with a diverse set of stakeholders—faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, and the university and business community—to craft a vision for the future all can support and will inspire these stakeholders to seek even higher goals and ambitions.

 The successful candidate must have a PhD or DBA in accounting from an AACSB accredited university and have an active research record in accounting that supports the appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure at UTC.  In addition, qualified applicants must also have a record of strong leadership within a collegial and team-oriented academic environment, demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with external constituencies.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
