The Citadel Names Art Chase as Athletic Director

CHARLESTON, S.C.-- ArtChase leaves Duke to take the helm of The Citadel Athletics.
The Citadel President Gen. Glenn Walters, USMC (Ret.), '79, announced the newhire on Wednesday, Feb. 19, after a nationwide search that included nearly 100high-caliber candidates.
"I am excited that Art Chase isreturning to The Citadel to lead our athletic teams after 25 years at DukeUniversity," Walters said. "He is exceptionally qualified, familiarwith our mission and prepared to make all our programs and athletessuccessful."
Chase served as the Assistant Sports Information Director at The Citadel fortwo years in the 1990s before working at Presbyterian College in a similarrole. He returned to The Citadel for three years as the Sports InformationDirector before departing in 2001 for the Duke University athletic department.
At Duke, he acted as the Associate Sports Information Director (2000-04),Sports Information Director (2005-10), Assistant Director of Athletics/SportsInformation (2011-13), Assistant Director of Athletics/External Affairs(2013-17) and Associate Director of Athletics/External Affairs (2017-18) beforebeing elevated to his current position as the department's Senior AssociateDirector of Athletics / External Affairs in 2018.

At Duke, Chase worked with a hugely successful lacrosse program that wonmultiple national championships and nine ACC championships. Over the last threeseasons, he also had management responsibilities with the second-winningestperiod in Duke football history.
The Citadel's athletic director search committee worked with Parker ExecutiveSearch, an external search firm, to promote the position and narrow the fieldto a small number of candidates.
Chase replaces Mike Capaccio, who retired after joining The Citadel in 2012; hewas named athletic director in 2018.
