Doug Hallenbeck named Vice President for Student Affairs

Doug Hallenbeck has been named Vice President for Student Affairs at Clemson University, following approval from the Board of Trustees Compensation Committee on July 18. Hallenbeck returns to Clemson after serving as Vice President for Student Affairs at Oklahoma State University from 2019-24.

In his new role beginning this fall, Hallenbeck will lead the Division of Student Affairs, encompassing areas responsible for supporting student success beyond the classroom.

Dr. Hallenbeck’s leadership as Vice President of Student Affairs at Oklahoma State, coupled with his understanding of Clemson’s culture and our student body, will continue to help us deliver the No. 1 student experience in the country, and elevate Clemson University even higher.

Hallenbeck previously spent 12 years at Clemson, serving as Executive Director of University Housing and Dining beginning in 2007 before moving into a senior leadership role within Student Affairs in 2015. During his first tenure at Clemson, he played a significant role in the development and construction of first-class student facilities such as housing enhancements in Core Campus and Douthit Hills, and recreation expansion at the Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Complex.

“I’m excited to return to Clemson and build upon the great work done to create a unique and positive experience for each of our students and look forward to working with my colleagues in Student Affairs and across the university as we continue to position Clemson as the best university in the nation,” said Hallenbeck. “I can’t wait to get back to the Upstate and get started.”

As Senior Associate Vice President, Hallenbeck held administrative oversight of several areas: housing and dining, campus activities and events, campus recreation, student health services and TigerOne card services. He chaired the Crisis Management Team, co-chaired the Judicial Hearing Board and served as an advisor to Clemson Undergraduate Student Government.

During his time as Vice President at Oklahoma State, Hallenbeck provided strategic leadership, financial management, student and community engagement, and crisis management and response. He implemented a new strategic plan while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, held leadership roles on multiple OSU committees and teams, and helped drive increase in both student retention and graduation rates.

Hallenbeck began his career in housing with stints at the University of Florida (1993-96), Oklahoma State (1996-2003) and Southern Methodist University (2003-07). He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgia College and holds a master’s degree in counselor education from Mississippi State University and doctorate in applied behavioral studies from Oklahoma State.
