Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Founded in 1855, MSU is the nation’s pioneer land-grant university. The university is situated in a 5,200 acre park-like setting along the banks of the Red Cedar River in East Lansing, Michigan. The campus is unique not only in its remarkable size but also its beauty. The campus has 532 buildings, including 103 academic buildings, and it continues to expand. MSU’s immediate neighbor is the City of East Lansing with a population of 48,000, many of whose residents are affiliated with the university. Lansing, the capital of Michigan, borders East Lansing and the university. It boasts a diverse population of 114,000. The next Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs will be a strategic and visionary leader working closely with the President. As the Chief Academic Officer, the Provost will meet the criteria for a tenured full professor at the university and must have a substantial record of academic leadership and management. Additionally, the Provost should have demonstrated ability to:
- create and sustain a safe, diverse, equitable, and inclusive campus environment and university community;
- foster a culture of high aspirations and strong core values;
- bolster high academic standards and excellence through the teaching and learning mission of the university, a robust research enterprise, and an enriching student experience;
- work effectively within a shared governance environment and promote academic governance;
- engage the campus community and collaboratively undertake a strategic planning process;
- advance diversity, equity, and inclusion as part of an overall strategic vision;
- emphasize and lead university-community partnerships through outreach and engagement efforts;
- enrich MSU’s portfolio of international programs and partnerships;
- lead via collaborative and transparent decision-making processes; and
- effectively champion MSU, its faculty, staff, students, and academic programs.
