Arrick Jackson has been named the new dean of Ferris State University’s College of Education and Human Services. Jackson’s start date is July 1.

Jackson comes to Ferris from Tarrant County College District in Fort Worth, Texas where he has served as the vice president of community and industry education services. Prior to his service as vice president, he was the divisional dean of public services and social and behavioral sciences at TCC.

“Dr. Jackson’s experiences and background will bring a breadth of perspective to the College of Education and Human Services programs, students, faculty and staff,” said Paul Blake, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. “Ferris is indeed fortunate to welcome him to the university’s team.”

Other positions Jackson has held include faculty appointments at the University of North Texas at Denton, the UNT at Dallas and Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was also Project Director I at the Social and Economic Sciences Research Center, Washington State University.

Jackson’s leadership experience includes directing the operations of two training academies (fire and police), managing multiple continuing education programs, increasing diversity through the implementation of two additional high school fire academies with local ISDs, and coordination with program leaders and department chairs in developing new curricula in horticulture, fire technology, criminal justice and occupational safety programs. Jackson also has an extensive track record in fundraising and obtaining grants in areas such as in-service police training, a program aimed at reducing violence against women on campus and with a college credit for heroes industry challenge.

Jackson earned a doctoral degree in political science from Washington State University. He also holds a master’s degree in criminal justice, also from WSU, and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
