The University of Central Florida (UCF) seeks a visionary, inspirational, collaborative and innovative leader to serve as the Founding Dean of a College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS). The College will be a core member of the newly-formed UCF Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) along with the existing Colleges of Nursing and Medicine. All deans within the AHSC will report to the Provost/Executive Vice President for academic affairs and to the Vice President of Health Affairs for clinical-related affairs.
UCF is an emerging preeminent research university in Florida and one of the largest universities in the United States. The university boasts a diverse student body, with nearly 50% of students reporting diverse backgrounds. It has just reached the 25% threshold for being designated a Hispanic-serving institution by the Department of Education.
The formation of CHPS was the result of a comprehensive university-wide restructuring to develop the AHSC with the goal of enhancing education, research, service, and clinical practice. The Founding Dean will not only lead its academic units, but also collaborate with the other AHSC entities to carry out its mission in alignment with the University goal of achieving preeminent status in the state.
The CHPS will host four academic units: the Department of Health Sciences (new), the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the School of Kinesiology and Physical Therapy (new), and the School of Social Work. The programs in this new college are well-established within the University and boast successful student achievement and research productivity. The schools, departments and programs collectively aspire to become the preeminent health sciences college where diverse students, faculty, scientists, and clinicians integrate learning, discovery, and technology to cultivate excellence in health.
The CHPS units support the education of 8,300 students. The student body is comprised of a large undergraduate student population and strong enrollments in multiple graduate programs, which include a professional doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) and a PhD in exercise physiology. An interdisciplinary PhD program in rehabilitation science and a doctor of social work (DSW) are under development. Faculty in CHPS are also involved in several interdisciplinary research clusters, such as new ones in Disability, Aging, and Technology and Violence against Women.
The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the college, have a distinguished record of accomplishment meriting appointment at the rank of professor with tenure, and senior leadership experience within a college with health-related programs.
Preferred qualifications include an established record of research with a history of extramural funding, and previous academic administrative experience providing leadership across healthcare disciplines.
