The Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) invites nominations and applications for the position of Agency Director, Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX).


The Agency Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the agency and is appointed by the TAMUS Board of Regents, functioning under the general authority of the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor of Engineering. The Agency Director is responsible for the administration of the organization, which includes planning, budgeting, operating and allocating resources for the agency in accordance with the intended purpose, mission and scope of the agency. A bachelor’s degree is required, as well as a distinguished employment record commensurate with a Chief Operating Officer or a Chief Executive Officer.

TEEX is an internationally recognized leader in the delivery of emergency response, homeland security and workforce training, exercises, technical assistance, and economic development. A member of TAMUS and an agency of the state of Texas, in 2017 TEEX served more than 173,000 people from across the United States and 75 countries through hands-on training and technical services. Major TEEX programs include firefighting, EMS, and rescue; infrastructure and safety; law enforcement; economic and workforce development; cybersecurity; emergency response and recovery; and homeland security.

Home to some of the world's top training facilities, the emergency preparedness campus in Bryan/College Station includes the Brayton Fire Training Field, Disaster City and the Emergency Operations Training Center. Customized TEEX training programs develop practical solutions for each client's need through hands-on instruction and custom facilities for public utilities, law enforcement and unexploded ordnance training at RELLIS Campus or at customer-specified locations worldwide.  With an annual operating budget of $82.5 million, TEEX has 450 full-time employees and about 800 part-time/adjunct employees.

The Bryan/College Station metropolitan area is a community of approximately 250,000 and is in the center of the triangle formed by Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston and San Antonio. The area is frequently rated as a top place to live with excellent cultural, recreational, and social activities and a high quality of life.


The principal duties of the Agency Director include:

  • Coordinating the planning, development and operation of all activities and programs of the agency.
  • Administering the business and financial management of the agency, including, but not limited to, budget preparation and implementation, maintenance of financial accounts for agency activities, auditing of expenditures and bills presented for payment, and preparing financial reports as required.
  • Providing for the operation and maintenance of the agency’s physical plants, administering the purchase of supplies and equipment, and maintaining appropriate inventories and records of real and personal properties under the jurisdiction of the agency.
  • Attending TAMUS Board of Regents meetings, and meetings required by the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and the Texas Legislature and providing timely information to leadership as requested.
  • Conducting regular periodical evaluations of each administrative officer.
  • Developing annual budgets and legislative budget requests as required and submitting them to the Vice Chancellor and the Chancellor for recommendation to and action by the Board of Regents.
  • Developing procedures and standards for personnel administration, including those for employment, wage and salary administration, pay plans and classification, termination and conditions of employment in conformity with TAMUS policies, practices and procedures.
  • Establishing a climate for ethical leadership through actions, as well as sound business procedures and practices to comply with required policies and practices.


The Search Committee invites nominations, applications (letter of interest, resume, and the names and contact information of at least five references), or expressions of interest be submitted to the search firm assisting Texas A&M Engineering.  Confidential review of materials will begin immediately and continue until the appointment is made.  The Search Committee prefers that all nominations and applications be submitted to the search firm prior to June 21, 2018.
