Position Summary

The Vice President, University Advancement, and Chief Executive Officer, KSU Foundation (VP, University Advancement) reports to the President of Kennesaw State University and serves as a key member of the President’s senior management team. The new Vice President will be an experienced leader with a comprehensive grasp of advancement and the critical role that alumni relations play in the success of the institution. Communications and relationship building skills are of paramount importance as is the ability to inspire ever-higher levels of support from the campus community, volunteers, alumni, donors and prospects.

The VP, University Advancement sets the strategic direction of Kennesaw State’s fund-raising campaigns, with the advice and consent of the President and is responsible for the operations, management, and oversight of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, the KSU Foundation, and related personnel. The incumbent coordinates and manages responsibilities related to:

  • Kennesaw State’s and the Foundation’s fundraising, working closely with appropriate members of the campus community to establish, pursue and close fundraising opportunities;
  • Coordinate and oversee the operations of the KSU Alumni Association; 
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the Board of Trustees of the KSU Foundation to the University faculty, staff, other University and State Boards, and the General community;
  • Coordinate the fundraising activities of the Board and other KSUF volunteers; 
  • Responsible for the performance of all Foundation real estate assets to ensure compliance with all bond and/or debt obligations;
  • Oversee future real estate acquisitions the Foundation may pursue and oversee the management of the Foundation’s investment portfolio;
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy that is critical to the enhancement of the University’s mission of excellence;
  • To lead the University in its next capital/comprehensive campaign and to strengthen the University’s alumni programs.

The VP, University Advancement leads a team of direct reports at the Assistant or Associate Directors level, in addition to other Exempt and Non-Exempt level staff.  This team consists of 10-to-20 professionals, working with the other University staff, alumni, volunteers, and the Foundation trustees across the University to develop donors.  The VP, University Advancement must have experience in cultivating and managing not only donors, but also a volunteer Board of Trustees and be able to effectively communicate an understanding of University fundraising, non-profit governance, volunteer development and Board management.  The VP, University Advancement must be able to direct a CFO who also collaborates with the Chief Business Officer for KSU.

The VP, University Advancement represents the President when called upon, serves on the President’s cabinet and performs other duties as assigned by the President.

Required Qualifications

Education:        A bachelor’s degree is required.  A master’s degree in a relevant field may be an advantage.

Experience:      9+ years’ comparable/related experience; management/supervisory skills are required.
